MILLER+MILLER Architectural Photography photographs the Navy Pier Wave Wall and Urban Design & Structures Photography showcasing the urban design materials, systems infrastructure and architecture design of the recently redesigned, downtown Chicago popular tourist attraction.  Our photography focused on capturing the Navy Pier wave stair wall’s modern design which utilizes our client’s application of commercial and industrial paint coatings finishes.

Navy Pier’s dynamic lakefront location has been a part of Chicago’s history since 1916.  As Chicago urban design and architectural photographers, we appreciate the benefit of often learning early about finishing of construction, photographing just built skyscrapers, buildings, new construction, and unique architect projects annually; such as quoting photos of Chicago’s newest Navy Pier “Wave Stair Wall” right after completion.

Our client’s marketing contact inquired to us about her company’s infrastructure construction marketing portfolio photo needs and photography the company’s latest urban design architectural project at Chicago Navy Pier.  Looking for Chicago photographer to photograph several angles and appearances of the Urban Design & Structures featuring the company’s architectural and industrial coatings for the wood & steel architectural materials around the finished site.  The architect designed and client’s finishing coatings are visible within the wave stair wall, railings and benches around the staircase of the pier, providing a premier coating for high performance architectural and industrial applications using a Fluoronar finish.  Photography included a variety of angles and detailed pictures of the sites that utilized architectural steel and metal primer and topcoat final coatings.   A few wide shots included the skyline to the west, with Loews Hotel Tower, Trump, 474 North Lake Shore Drive, & Lake Point Tower skyscrapers visible in the background of the pier images.

The Navy Pier pierscape renovation is a small part of the plan for Chicago’s historic Navy Pier redesign called The Centennial Vision. Navy Pier celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2016.  The first of multiple phases of construction design at Navy Pier included architect and construction company’s development of new architectural structures – Wave Wall, Info Tower, Lake Pavilions, and Kiosks Kiosks with stainless steel canopies and a towering glass and chrome sculpture are among the recent enhancements made now spanning the newly redesigned pierscape in Chicago on the Navy Pier’s South Dock and the Polk Bros. Fountain. The pierscape urban architecture and landscape design project was led by New York based James Corner Field Operations team in the design of the contemporary “pierscape” that will renew the popular destination’s experience and connection to the water.  “Re-imagined as a green spine that extends from Lake Michigan back into the city, the Pier’s South Dock anchors a series of thematic rooms filled with engaging social spaces, contemporary architecture, stunning water features, atmospheric lighting, amusements, and seasonal plantings.  The new South Dock and adjoining Polk Brothers Park, as well as the upcoming East End Park, Crystal Garden and other public spaces, will make Navy Pier not only a world-class icon, but also a center of activity and culture that is reflective of an authentic, contemporary Chicago identity.”

The Chicago’s Navy Pier is Illinois’ most popular tourist attraction. The pierscape’s redesign connects the vibrant social and recreational space redesigned to help connect the pier back to the city.  Field Operations  plans for the architecture of Pierscape to be organized into two categories and scales: large singular structures that merge buildings with landscape and smaller objects that punctuate the pier and frame new views towards Lake Michigan. As the architects on the team, nARCHITECTS collaborated on the overall plan and designed structures that enhance Chicagoans’ connection to the lake by framing, integrating or reflecting the natural environment.

As the centerpiece of the South Dock Promenade, the Wave Wall is a louvered façade that morphs into a grand stair, inspired by the Spanish Steps in Rome at Scalinata di Trinità dei Monti.  It connects the South Dock to an upper level amusement park in one continuous and dramatic social space with south facing views of Lake Michigan.  As the steps rise and transition into louvers, they reveal access to 30,000 square feet of retail spaces below.  The Wave Wall Staircase steps serve not only as a traditional staircase purpose leading upwards from the lakefront up to the Centennial Wheel Navy Pier Chicago, but also dual use as seating for the throughout the Summer, twice a week Navy Pier Firework’s show where many onlookers sit to watch fireworks lighting the sky over Lake Michigan.

Drone, Exterior & Interior Photography at Spoke

Chicago photographers Miller + Miller Architectural Photography recently photographed skyline drone aerial, exterior building, and interior photography at Spoke Apartments in Chicago. Spoke Apartments is Chicago’s brand new, two-tower community in the River West neighborhood offering retail, commercial space, and residential apartments, townhomes rentals. One of our objectives for the shoot was a focus of photos for the communities residential marketing and photographs within the mix of unique on-site building amenities for residents. The apartment community’s marketing “728 reasons to live here. You could leave, but you don’t have to. This is the address that has it all.”

The open-concept and ultra-unique floor plans feature stainless steel appliances and dramatic panoramic views of the Chicago skyline. The mixed-use development has a convenient location offering instant access to River West, West Town, Wicker Park, Ukrainian Village, the bus, interstate, and downtown Chicago via the CTA Blue Line subway and Milwaukee Avenue’s “Hipster Highway.”

M+M is a Chicago drone aerial photographer, exterior architecture, and interior room apartment photographer. The exterior and interior photographs for this Chicago apartment photography shoot included a specific request for the photos to be atmospheric and the shoot to include lifestyle architectural exterior and interior photos with people. The images not only captured the architectural surrounding for exteriors and interior room photographs, but also incorporated people and residents in motion, adding a trendy lifestyle element into the photos to be used for the leasing marketing for the Chicago apartment building’s busy location and the multi-family property amenity spaces.

One impressive highlight for this newly development apartment building is it’s abundance of on-site amenities for renters. The client desired us to choose the most impactful and photographic spaces whereas we selected the lobby and a few vibrant common area spaces for the photography to occur. A few of the numerous amenity spaces and rooms at Spoke include a Virtual cycling studio, yoga, gaming room, luxury sky lounge penthouse, party rooms, spinning studio, 24-hour fitness center, an acre plus of outdoor space, the South Tower’s indoor/outdoor fireplace, outdoor terraces, rooftop pool, private cabanas, bbq, outdoor kitchens, firepits, dog run & spa, parking garage, stage, music room, game room, and recording studio.

Inside the apartment property are unique interior décor designs, architectural design elements, and art filling the interior of the commercial residential building. Curated by Patti Gilford Fine Arts, 24 innovative Chicago-based artists were carefully selected to complement the architecture and culture of Spoke. Akin to living in a contemporary art gallery, the lobbies, amenity spaces, and residential corridors of each building display vibrant, diverse, and thought-provoking paintings, drawings, photography and more providing an unrivaled cultural experience of living alongside contemporary art. We enjoyed the mixing all of the vibrant elements together combining the unique amenity room’s luxury and artsy design details with people walking within the artistic architectural interior photography images.

The Spoke development is the result of a collaboration between Morgan Holdings and the Bond Companies. Ronnie Morgan and Rob & Larry Bond joined forces to create the best residential rental community in this prime location in Chicago, Illinois.

Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago Skyscraper Building Photography

lurie-childrens-hospital-chicago-northwestern

For the Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago Skyscraper Building Photography project, our Construction Company client’s project and photo shoot required a bit of strategizing.  Strategizing for each client project is typical, but especially necessary for these photos due to not only to photographing the building skyscraper’s full height, but also due to the location & elevation direction. The Lurie Children’s Hospital facility sits one 1.8 acres of land on one of the most visited sections in downtown Chicago – with an estimated 30,000 Northwestern Medicine staff alone in the medical districts area. Affiliated with and sitting on Northwestern Memorial Hospital campus, Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago sits in the heart of downtown and inside the bustling mixed-use district of Chicago’s magnificent mile neighborhood where several hotels, residential, offices, restaurants, shopping and museums surround. With our experience photographing buildings in Chicago since 2008, it was easy to balance all of these elements during the photo shoot. Lurie Children’s Hospital’s main elevation faces Chicago Avenue looking North onto the lawn of Musuem of Contemporary Art. With our strategizing, planning and advanced research, Miller+Miller easily planned ahead for a few photographic challenges, strategizing for Lurie’s north facing building facade, and high-rise construction building Chicago photography as desired.

The new construction plans for The Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago high-rise skyscraper medical building included a modern & new building design, and plans to improve the operational efficiency of the medical facility. Construction started in 2008 and completed in 2012.  The new Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago Building’s construction hospital facility stands 22 floors above the ground and is located in Chicago’s urban neighborhood where buildings extend all the way to the sidewalks with no empty building space left on each square block.  The Lurie Children’s Memorial Hospital was 1 building elevation in a list of 15 properties we photographed for our Construction Company client’s portfolio of past construction work.  (Click here to view all of our posts & photography of Buildings at Northwestern University in Evanston and Chicago medical campuses)

Northwestern Lurie Children's Memorial Hospital Chicago

Miller + Miller Architectural Photography has photographed several new construction hospital & medical centers and skyscraper buildings around Chicago. The concrete, glass and steel built Chicago skyscraper tower sits 1,252,919 feet tall.  With the high-rise sitting in the bustling section of downtown Chicago, the location and no option for adding on real estate for the new building design except for going taller, meant the facility would need a unique architectural building design to best fit within the existing neighborhood.  The architects final designs included stacking of the upper level of the skyscraper’s floors creatively, with the east and top portion of the building extending a couple of room to the east, toward Lake Michigan.  The unique structure viewable from the northside extends looks stacked extending off the building’s base to the east which allowed for more room inside the hospital creatively adding stacked look, maximizing the new Lurie hospital’s medical offices, suites, and space within the glass & steel new building construction’s design.

Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago is located on the Northwestern Memorial Hospital complex campus at 225 East Chicago Avenue, Chicago IL 60611. The Lurie Children’s Hospital building, also reference by the name of Children’s Memorial Hospital, displays a modern & unique approach to high-rise hospital architecture and building design. The Lurie Children’s hospital was architecturally designed by Solomon Cordwell Buenz Architects scb.com, Anderson Mikos Architects Ltd and ZGF Architects LLP.
