MILLER+MILLER Architectural Photography photographs the Navy Pier Wave Wall and Urban Design & Structures Photography showcasing the urban design materials, systems infrastructure and architecture design of the recently redesigned, downtown Chicago popular tourist attraction.  Our photography focused on capturing the Navy Pier wave stair wall’s modern design which utilizes our client’s application of commercial and industrial paint coatings finishes.

Navy Pier’s dynamic lakefront location has been a part of Chicago’s history since 1916.  As Chicago urban design and architectural photographers, we appreciate the benefit of often learning early about finishing of construction, photographing just built skyscrapers, buildings, new construction, and unique architect projects annually; such as quoting photos of Chicago’s newest Navy Pier “Wave Stair Wall” right after completion.

Our client’s marketing contact inquired to us about her company’s infrastructure construction marketing portfolio photo needs and photography the company’s latest urban design architectural project at Chicago Navy Pier.  Looking for Chicago photographer to photograph several angles and appearances of the Urban Design & Structures featuring the company’s architectural and industrial coatings for the wood & steel architectural materials around the finished site.  The architect designed and client’s finishing coatings are visible within the wave stair wall, railings and benches around the staircase of the pier, providing a premier coating for high performance architectural and industrial applications using a Fluoronar finish.  Photography included a variety of angles and detailed pictures of the sites that utilized architectural steel and metal primer and topcoat final coatings.   A few wide shots included the skyline to the west, with Loews Hotel Tower, Trump, 474 North Lake Shore Drive, & Lake Point Tower skyscrapers visible in the background of the pier images.

The Navy Pier pierscape renovation is a small part of the plan for Chicago’s historic Navy Pier redesign called The Centennial Vision. Navy Pier celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2016.  The first of multiple phases of construction design at Navy Pier included architect and construction company’s development of new architectural structures – Wave Wall, Info Tower, Lake Pavilions, and Kiosks Kiosks with stainless steel canopies and a towering glass and chrome sculpture are among the recent enhancements made now spanning the newly redesigned pierscape in Chicago on the Navy Pier’s South Dock and the Polk Bros. Fountain. The pierscape urban architecture and landscape design project was led by New York based James Corner Field Operations team in the design of the contemporary “pierscape” that will renew the popular destination’s experience and connection to the water.  “Re-imagined as a green spine that extends from Lake Michigan back into the city, the Pier’s South Dock anchors a series of thematic rooms filled with engaging social spaces, contemporary architecture, stunning water features, atmospheric lighting, amusements, and seasonal plantings.  The new South Dock and adjoining Polk Brothers Park, as well as the upcoming East End Park, Crystal Garden and other public spaces, will make Navy Pier not only a world-class icon, but also a center of activity and culture that is reflective of an authentic, contemporary Chicago identity.”

The Chicago’s Navy Pier is Illinois’ most popular tourist attraction. The pierscape’s redesign connects the vibrant social and recreational space redesigned to help connect the pier back to the city.  Field Operations  plans for the architecture of Pierscape to be organized into two categories and scales: large singular structures that merge buildings with landscape and smaller objects that punctuate the pier and frame new views towards Lake Michigan. As the architects on the team, nARCHITECTS collaborated on the overall plan and designed structures that enhance Chicagoans’ connection to the lake by framing, integrating or reflecting the natural environment.

As the centerpiece of the South Dock Promenade, the Wave Wall is a louvered façade that morphs into a grand stair, inspired by the Spanish Steps in Rome at Scalinata di Trinità dei Monti.  It connects the South Dock to an upper level amusement park in one continuous and dramatic social space with south facing views of Lake Michigan.  As the steps rise and transition into louvers, they reveal access to 30,000 square feet of retail spaces below.  The Wave Wall Staircase steps serve not only as a traditional staircase purpose leading upwards from the lakefront up to the Centennial Wheel Navy Pier Chicago, but also dual use as seating for the throughout the Summer, twice a week Navy Pier Firework’s show where many onlookers sit to watch fireworks lighting the sky over Lake Michigan.

Northwestern University Bienen School of Music & Center For Musical Arts LEED Building Photos

Chicago school campus university buildings tour photographer

Last year, a highly respected and nationwide Commercial Construction company hired Miller + Miller to photograph buildings at Northwestern University.  The Northwestern University Bienen School of Music & Center For Musical Arts LEED Building photos project was one building from a list of 15 impressively designed buildings for this Miller + Miller Photography construction company client.   The Construction Company hired us to provide commercial design-build architectural photography property photos, with the series of photos focusing on photography of 15 Exterior Chicago Buildings Photographs for our client’s Construction Company’s portfolio. This large, multiple facilities photo project was an exciting win for us. Last year, we photographed the company’s Chicago area projects.  Looking forward to this year, our husband + wife, duo photographers company traveling Nationwide to additional locations.

The Bienen School of Music Patrick G. and Shirley W. Ryan Center for the Musical Arts at Northwestern University campus facility is situated on the Evanston lakefront of Lake Michigan. The building’s impressive design and its architecture has been honorably discussed since construction’s completion. The Bienen School of Music facility is a brand new building on Northwestern University’s campus. Designed by Chicago-based architectural firm Goettsch Partners. The building’s architectural design features a limestone base supporting the impressive Z-shaped modern, reflective exterior that is primarily glass which takes maximum advantage of the lakefront location and views of the Chicago skyline from Evanston. The music and communication building on Northwestern University sits on the Evanston campus’s southeastern edge with breathtaking & inspiring views onto its’ water frontage of Lake Michigan. The new arts building is green designed and has designation of LEED gold certification award. The Northwestern University school’s new music building has been named by the Chicago Tribune in harmony with the lakefront.  An architectural example of harmonization pairing the building design and well-defined purpose.

As Chicago commercial architectural photographers, it was easy to become artistically inspired while photographing the Bienen School of Music & Center building’s modern building’s eye-catching, dynamic architecture and lakefront natural setting.  The contemporary building has a shooting Z-shaped mass representative of a nautical lines of a ship.  The impressive architecturally designed building defines the eastern edge of the arts building, make sharp “z” shaped turning junctions from east turning to the west, sharply edging away from Lake Michigan. A large, light-filled atrium divides the university’s new additional from the original music building to create a majestic, new main entry and hall gathering space. With glass and metal architectural building elements, the new building’s architecture offers clear views on to the lake and Chicago skyline down shore. Awarded LEED Gold status, the building offers a variety of innovative features including a double-skin facade of iron and glass cladding, and a grey water system. All spaces met enormous acoustical and sound requirements, including the opera rehearsal room and choral recital. Our campus photography shoot included a couple of photographed interior theater photography. Click here to view our interior theater photography inside the Bienen School’s Recital Hall. As well as, architectural photos of the eastern side of the building along the campus’s frequently enjoyed new pedestrian and bike path with a minimalistic, modern wire cable railing divider providing unobstructing views to enjoy the outdoors and green lawn along Evanston’s beautiful lakefront.

The Patrick G. and Shirley W. Ryan Center at Northwestern University Bienen School of Music Center for the Arts building photo shoot on Northwestern University Campus is located at 70 Arts Circle Drive, Evanston, IL 60208. Additions, renovations, and construction of the modern constructed, $108 Million dollar, 152,000 square foot, 5 stories tall building was completed in 2015. It was Miller + Miller Architectural photography’s pleasure to obtain from the Chicago division of a trusted, building construction company the 15 location, multi building commercial construction architectural photography project.  The construction company has been a trusted partner in the country to manage commercial building facade projects and in turn they have trusted in us.  The client’s company translates architectural designs to engineered building enclosures. Specifically, the functional engineering application used to fabricate and install the exterior’s glass cladding system. A trusted partner in the country to manage building façade projects, they have a well deserving earned reputation which infuses national capabilities into talent-packed, local offices around the US. Forming partnerships with their clients, over 90% have become repeat customers for the firm, due to the construction company’s repeat satisfaction, reputation, and onsite from concept to completion starting with planning, engineering & design, manufacturing of the product, and project management of the construction process.

A National construction and engineering company with a Local presence in Chicago. The construction company who hired Miller + Miller Photography collaborates and builds many of Chicago’s most impressive commercial, medical campus, modern renovations, educational facilities, hotels, high-rises & skyscrapers, and the finest of architecture – many which will soon be iconic buildings throughout Chicago, the suburbs, and Nationwide to Dallas, Houston, Miami, Seattle, Atlanta, Austin, Denver, Orlando, Minnesota, and more major destinations across America. Our client had a few simple requests for the photo project. Capture photography of their Construction Company’s best architectural projects and commercial buildings. An incredible list of locations to photograph, we were impressed upon reviewing the list of 15 buildings to photograph all remarkably constructed and engineered by the Construction Company, so we simply couldn’t wait to get started.  For each exterior building photo shoot, our client’s primary shoot desires were to showcase each building as one attention grabbing image for the company’s impressive construction marketing portfolio and feature those 15 best shots and images of the buildings as framed prints on the walls of their office.  The company’s new Chicago headquarters had blank walls, so they desired to showcase past construction projects as wall art through the hallways, boardroom, and executive staff members offices. Although only one final shot was requested, we couldn’t resist photographing this building from multiple angles, highlighting the structure’s unbelievable architecture.

This Northwestern University Bienen School of Music & Center For Musical Arts LEED Building  Photography Construction Project was 1 building out of a 15 buildings within the entire photography project.  Miller + Miller Photography is looking forward to photographing all of the Construction Company client’s showcase Commercial Buildings and Architecture over the next couple of years… not only just in Chicago, also traveling Nationwide.
