Today’s post features sample architectural exterior building photos of The Harold Washington Social Security Government Building Renovation in Chicago. Our client, an architectural commercial construction company, requested building photography at multiple project locations of commercial buildings around Chicago and the suburbs showcasing past projects for the client’s marketing and construction portfolio of images for business.

The Harold Washington Social Security Center is located in the West Loop of Chicago. The headquarters for SSA’s Chicago regional office was built in 1975. The government building recently underwent a renovation. The 10-story building is made of composite steel, a reinforced concrete structural frame clad in pre-cast concrete panels, and a glass and spandrel curtain wall. The construction team in charge of the concrete building with new modern glass renovation Chicago construction project are Jacobs Ryan Associates Landscape Architects, Bergland Construction, and Harmon Inc.

The modernized, new Harold Washington Social Security Government Building occupies one city block of Chicago’s West Loop. City of Chicago Harold Washington Social Security Government building features public art at the building’s entrance. A giant, 101-foot-tall, outdoor steel sculpture baseball bat named Batcolumn (or Bat Column) by artist Claes Oldenburg.

Chicago’s skyscrapers, chimney stacks, neoclassical columns, steel bridge cross-bracing and construction cranes inspired the design of Claes Oldenburg’s heroic- scaled, lattice-shell baseball bat. On observing Chicago’s flat terrain, the Swedish-born artist once commented, “the real art here is architecture, or anything that really stands up.” Oldenburg’s Batcolumn demonstrates the artist’s fascination with scale and the changes in the significance of everyday objects when they are enlarged to monumental proportions. Like all of Oldenburg’s monuments, Batcolumn combines a humorous and irreverent attitude toward popular objects with meticulous construction details and handling of scale and proportion. It can alternately be seen as a reference to historical monumental columns, a salute to the American institution of baseball or a tribute to the steel industry.  Source, The Chicago Public Art Guide

“In early 2009, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act was put in place to jump start the economy and fix a number of everyday needs across America.  A number of new and re-development projects were put in place within Illinois.  Stimulus projects have been focused within the areas of eduction, housing and energy, health and human services, public safety, transportation and infrastructure, broadband technology, general workforce development and retention and within the water and sewer main industry.

Miller + Miller was recently commission to capture photographically a few ongoing construction projects underway by an Illinois based consulting and engineering firm.  We arrived on location at the construction site to capture under-construction marketing photographs documenting the engineering company’s newest and active projects.  The Chicago area firm has expertise and experience in providing improvements, repairing and expanding of water and wastewater infrastructures and facilities.  No only does the firm have a  focus on water and wastewater markets, but also in aviation, highways & bridges, and land development.  We look forward to hearing about your company’s photography and marketing needs.  Submit your inquiry on our contact page and include within your contact a description of your photographic needs.”

University College Prep School Exterior and Interior Photography

“Above our a few samples from our two day photography session with this university and college preparatory high school, located in the Northern Illinois and Chicago area.  The day capturing architectural photography included not only campus exterior architectural photography, but also interior room photography of the old and new sections of the school, and time outdoors beyond the education section of the campus where we photographed the school, university and college sport stadium, parks and fields.

After discussing with the school’s marketing department their communication and visual needs, they booked more than one day with us and we captured pictures of the building’s recent additions and renovations to campus academic buildings, classrooms, lecture halls and more providing photos for the school’s public relations, press, development needs.  The campus tour photos were incorporated into the school’s recent web design update and printed brochures.  Today a year later after the shoot, our contact at the school replied saying  “Thank you Sarah and Ryan. Your photography has helped our school’s marketing pieces and website standout. ”

With several public and private educational institutions in the Chicago suburbs and the metropolitan Chicago area the development department decided to updated the school’s design materials by enhancing the designs with not only a new up to date logo, information and web site, but they also contacted us for commercial photography of the students and interior and exterior building photos helping to enhance the image of the campus inviting future students to visit and enjoy the school.”
